GRADUATION NIGHT
PICS FROM LAST WEEK:
- Volcanoes create their own weather systems. Extremely high amount of static electricity.
- Baby Sloth
- Graphical work.
- you need to know the calculus way of showing work.
- Be careful because sometimes the force plotted is not the entire force. It is just the part of the force that is in the direction of motion.
- Horse power, watts, the stadium.
- Horse power, watts, the stadium.
- A calculus version of deriving the WKT (Work-Kinetic Energy Theorem.
- make sure you use the right K.
- A colorful bird? . . . or a woman?
- Gravitational Potential Energy
- Gravity is a conserved force. Conserved forces do NO WORK ina closed path.
- Work of gravity in a Pendulum. Positive work as the mass speeds up on the way to equilibrium –> an equal amount of negative work as the mass slows down as it leaves equilibrium
- Different potential (stored) energies
- Fritz Haber
- Chemical Bond Potential Energies. Notice how strong the diatomic nitrogen bond is.
- The Haber Process
- Haber brough fertilizer to the world. Unfortunately, he also perfected the technique of producing chlorine gas.
- Chlorine gas being produced and spread over the enemy trenches.
- Spring Potential Energy
- The Spring dance.
- We measured occillations of masses hanging on springs.
- Circular world is closely related to Simple Harmonic motion of springs and Pendulums (see animation on the animation page of this website)
- A work Kinetic energy problem.
- We’ll do this Monday if we haven’t already.
- Cooling towers
- We talked about Nuclear Potential energy and the binding forces and the need for heavy water in some reactors and nuclear research.
- Heavy water (DOH) acts as a moderator to slow down neutrons to help control the rate of the fission reactions.
- The Hydrogen facility in Noray that produced Heavy water in WW2. Germany wanted their water. The Norwegians drowned many of their own people to keep Hitler from getting it.
- Tritium is another isotope of hydrogen that contains TWO neutrons. Very unstable and radioactive.
